A lone camelthorn tree stands on the white clay pan of Deadvlei in Namibia’s Namib Desert, framed by the vast sweep of red dunes and an open blue sky. The tree is believed to be around 600 to 900 years old, with no moisture to break the wood down, the trees never decayed and remain standing as skeletal forms, scorched by centuries of sun.
Our photographer has captured the stark contrast between the pale clay pan, the deep orange dunes, and the dark silhouette of the ancient tree to create a powerful and minimalist composition. As a fine art print, the bold colours and simple forms give the photograph a strong visual presence, making it particularly striking in modern interior spaces.
We have chosen the Giclée printing process on Hahnemühle Bamboo paper for its sustainability credentials (made from 90% bamboo fibres) and it's natural synergy with the subject.
This is the first in a series of images of Namibia's desert landscape, available exclusively from Highbury Editions. The print has been issued as a strictly limited edition and is available framed in Black or Oak with an ivory mount. It is also available unframed.
